SERVICE PROJECT & COLLECTION DRIVE IDEAS
Socks
SOCKS
We rarely get donations of socks, but they are greatly needed! Many children go without socks because these small items are easily lost in laundry facilities and caretakers can’t afford to buy new ones as often as kids need them.
Flashlights and Batteries
FLASHLIGHTS AND BATTERIES
Hundreds of people live without electricity because they either cannot afford it or they cannot afford to repair the wiring in their old houses. Flashlights give people an opportunity to be safer in their own homes.
Bedding
BEDDING
Many kids sleep on the floor or a couch. Even those with a bed rarely have sheets, pillows or comforters. Even though we may be able to donate a bed, there are still costs that go with dressing that bed.
Coats
COATS
We never have enough coats, especially for children. Warm coats help keep kids from getting sick, missing school, and becoming overwhelmed after falling behind in their schoolwork.
School Supplies
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
After the first few months of school, parents often don’t have the resources to replenish their children’s school supplies at local DISD schools. A box of pencils goes a long way, and kids can also use pens, markers, erasers, notebooks and loose-leaf paper.
Books (Children and Adults)
BOOKS (CHILDREN AND ADULT)
Busy streets and broken sidewalks make it difficult for many people to walk safely to the only public library in the area, which may be more than a mile away. Reading together is a valuable family experience that we wish to encourage and sustain.
